About the Author

Len's passion is the natural environment. He has worked in research, management, ecotourism and education for more than 40 years.

Len has worked throughout the world including the Great Barrier Reef, Kimberley Coast, Ningaloo Reef and Shark Bay, Rowley Shoals, inland Australia, PNG, Hawaii, Line Islands, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, Niue, Cook Islands, Tonga, Samoa, Easter Is, Pitcairns, Fiji, the Red Sea, Indonesia, Mediterranean, Caribbean, The South China Sea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East.
His media activities include:
French Ushuaia - for Canal 1, the award winning Channel 9 Inside the Reef series
He has appeared on Discovery, BBC, SBS2 and Fox.
Len has two species of coral named after him in recognition of his contributions to marine science.
He was chairman of Dive Queensland for 2 years and on the Council of the Australian College for Seniors.
Len also worked on the wreck of the HMS Pandora for six seasons with the Queensland Museum and was a director of the Pandora Foundation.
He is a skilled lecturer and underwater photographer. At the University of Queensland he established AustraLearn and TraveLearn.

Post Script : Len has just returned from a two month stint on a cruise vessel as the resident science lecturer. He is currently upgrading his opal mine at Lightning Ridge.
